Jim’s Update – January 17, 2010

Let me begin today with an apology for my too long silence. After all the initial activities to get my treatments started here in Houston..and then the holidays with the family here….it seems that we settled into the “realities” of our new temporary life.  The past two weeks have been filled with alternating between praising God, as always, for His peace, protection, and ultimate healing…and frantically moving along daily between chemo sessions, radiation, assorted other appointments, and most of all….trying to get enough food down to maintain weight and nutrients. The latter (food/swallowing) was indeed the most challenging! Continue reading

Nancy’s Update – January 17, 2010

Hello from Houston!

No we have not dropped off the face of the earth– 🙂 . We are tucked in our little condo doing battle on the “enemy”!

I can relate to the playoff games that are currently being played. It takes preparation, conditioning, expectation, and no distractions to come out the winner with a formidable foe!! We too are in a battle and we have been preparing for many years as we drew closer to our heavenly Father– navigating the troubled waters over the years in different areas of our lives!! A Special Anniversary

As I write this, I am getting reconnected to the “drugs” after the weekend. Funny how much we appreciate the simple blessings like a couple of days without tubes and machines. Yesterday was Nancy and my 43rd wedding anniversary. Who knew we would last this long, or travel so far… and with so many things to celebrate. I can only begin to imagine what he can do with us after our “mid course correction”. Continue reading

Happy 2011 and Thank You from Nancy

Happy new year to all. This is not the new year Jim and I anticipated at all– like many of you who have had your own personal circumstances that have come up this past year.

I have not logged on the site to leave a message yet so I thought today would be a good time to do it. Echoing Jim’s sentiments I would like to thank each and every one of you for your wonderful words that you wrote to us and to the kids in the Guest Book. It is still surreal to be a spouse of an esophageal cancer patient! We both look at each other and shake our head. Continue reading

Merry Christmas – 2011 Here I Come!

Well, the official Christmas celebrations are now over here in Houston. I sure hope that you all had a blessed holiday with family. We had 11 adults and 5 kids for the weekend festivities.  What a blast! On Christmas evening we all went church for a candlelight service and great music…we all absolutely loved it. Then I arranged a private dining room at the Four Seasons Houston for all of us to have Christmas dinner together ( no way to fit in our apartment and besides…chef Kevin went home for three days for his Christmas time with wife and young son, Gavin). He is back now….whew! Continue reading

Memories, Thanks and Praise – December 22, 2010

Dear friends,

I am indeed a very blessed and fortunate man! I have been reading the guest messages from this site, and realizing again what an amazing global family we have. Let me humbly and gratefully offer my deepest thank you’s for your wonderful messages. I have read many of these more than once, and I am stunned by the breadth of memories these names bring to me. Some responses are from key leaders who are just learning of my situation…some from people I have never met but seem to know me (this crazy business)…and some from IBO’s that we haven’t seen or heard from since the very early days of the business in the 70’s and 80’s (long before many of you global friends even knew of us ( or perhaps before you were even born!). You have encouraged me greatly… and I thank you! Continue reading

My First Update

Hi all,

As so many dear folks from around the world have been writing and encouraging and praying, I think it is time for an update. These past few days have been both the worst, and best of my life…. a “wake up” and perspective builder for sure. Following the initial “shock and awe” over such unexpected news, we were thrust into a new world of emotions and quick decisions…. And we are learning terminology I never wanted to know.  Cancer is a scary word to hear….it is also an opportunity to embrace God’s love and test our faith. It is defeatable, and with God’s help and infinite grace, plan to do just that.
